Help for your Wichita plumbing problem
Before arranging Wichita work, identify whether the concern is in the public system or private plumbing. Use the relevant guide to compare the proposed assessment and repair scope.
- Water Heater Replacement — Compare the complete installed job and check the separate City assistance process if relevant.
- Underground Water Leaks — Distinguish public leak reports from locating, repair and restoration on a private line.
- Drain Backup Help — Identify one affected fixture, multiple drains or a private septic-system issue.
Report a Wichita water or public sewer leak
The City of Wichita lists 316-262-6000 for water leaks and public sewer system leaks. Its reporting page gives a separate contact for private septic-system leaks. Use the appropriate city reporting route; these contacts are separate from our plumbing inquiry line.
Give a precise location and describe what is visible without opening a meter box, entering a manhole or approaching an unsafe area. If the utility has already attended, keep its report or explanation available for the plumber. A report about public infrastructure does not book private repair work inside your property.
A wet yard does not identify the pipe that failed
Wichita's city FAQ says maintenance and repair on the property owner's side of the water meter are generally the owner's responsibility. Ask which side of that boundary needs assessment before assuming the city or a private plumber will carry out the repair.
For the call, note whether there is also low pressure inside, whether water appears continuously and whether any recent digging or plumbing work took place. Describe the wet area rather than calling it a confirmed main break. The leaks and pipes guide explains what information helps with a hidden or underground leak.
Before agreeing to underground work
Ask what evidence locates the fault and whether the proposed visit is for investigation or repair. Request a written scope showing the pipe section, access work and method of repair. Ask who arranges utility locating and any required permits; do not begin digging to find the pipe yourself.
Check whether the price includes backfilling and restoration of a lawn, driveway or other surface. Keep investigation costs separate from a replacement quote so you can compare the same work. The plumbing estimate guide lists practical questions for reviewing those items.
Should a kitchen-only leak be reported as a city water leak?
Describe the actual location. A dripping faucet or wet sink cabinet needs a different assessment from water escaping near a street main. Tell the handler whether the leak occurs only while the faucet, disposal or a connected appliance runs.
What if the problem is no hot water in Wichita?
Say whether cold taps still work and whether every hot tap is affected. Have the heater type and model ready if they can be read safely. Mention any visible leak without removing covers or adjusting gas controls.
Can I call for Wichita plumbing help overnight?
Our inquiry line takes calls every day, 24/7. Give the address, whether water is still escaping and any access hazards. Confirm the accepting provider, visit window and after-hours charge before arranging attendance.
